Are you being contacted by Cavalry Portfolio Services?
Who are they? Cavalry Portfolio Services’ website states that their motto is “Cavalry………to the rescue” and that they “believe in making a difference one person at a time.” However, various consumer complaint websites appear to indicate otherwise. It appears that this agency is known for buying defaulted debts for a fraction of the balance and then pursuing full payment of those debts using abusive language and false threats. Additionally, many consumers appear to indicate that Cavalry has a propensity for attempting to collect debts from people that are extremely old or altogether invalid.
Be very careful before making any payments to this agency if you believe the debt is very old, as it may “re-age” the alleged account (and thus make you susceptible to legal action that might have been otherwise time-barred). It is always sound advice to take detailed, handwritten notes during every single call to ensure that if your rights are violated, that you will have proof of the unlawful conduct later on.
